I am a web developer that would like to get involved with doing some volunteer work for charitable organizations.

Are there resources out there to help marry programmers to worthy groups that need them?

I actually found pro bono work with a charity on jobserve, of all places, three years ago. So, I would suggest searching the 'normal' big job site too for terms like 'charity' and 'ngo'.

Why not do some outreach on your own in your local community? Call or email an organization and let them know what your skills are -- often times the charities that really need the help might not have the resources to recruit the volunteers they really need.

Try ngopost. They are trying to set up an interface between volunteers and NGOs and may find your help useful.

This is not specifically a site for IT professionals but it seems nice: http://www.volunteermatch.org/
