What are some good websites for learning HTML?

In my opinion :

http://www.w3schools.com/htmL/

There have errors, love proprietary technologies and manage to use examples of Worst Practise just about everywhere.

The website I used to learn HTML and other essential languages (Javascript, CSS, etc.) is W3Schools. I recommend their site to all. They have a very explanatory series of tutorials with examples that allow you to directly modify the HTML code in-page and see what happens. In other words, perfect for anybody learning HTML, as it allows them to truly experiment with the language. Hope you enjoy their tutorials! :)

@David Dorward: Agreed. However, I think they're good for getting started. (But if you need to look something up, I find MDC much more complete.)
Steve Harrison
I think they are pretty rubbish for getting started - but for a long time they were the best. These days, I believe there are better options out there (which actually qualify as 'good').
David Dorward
Yup I agree that they are only good for just really the beginning, because after that real HTML resources are needed.

It really is time people realised that w3schools is an appalling load of incompetent rubbish. @David Dorward: When you say "were the best", did you mean to say "were the least bad"? ;-)

HTMLDog - Easily the best.

The Opera Web Standards Curriculum is hard to beat. It has been written by people who actually know what they are talking about, and has been revised and corrected thanks to community feedback through the forums.

HTML Dog has already been mentioned, and is one of the best out there. I don't think it is quite up to the quality of OWSC though, and it has an unfortunate habit of glossing over the differences between HTML and XHTML.

+1 for the opera site. I was amazed.

What a horrible site. The code snippets are badly written, and utterly useless for learning HTML (which is what the question was about) and its covered with obnoxious adverts. ... now I've found the tutorial section ... which is complete garbage. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. This is worse than W3Schools.
David Dorward
I dont see any adverts since I use a filter. Someone gave me this link earlier today, I dont think it's that bad.

I've read some of it. It is that bad.
