What are the Perl user groups or discussion forums?

There isn't one forum per se, but I would recommend checking out PerlMonks as its been the definitive Perl discussion community for a long time.

PerlMonks seems like the place for the older generation to hang out. Everyone I know uses irc instead.

@jon: You know me and I don't use IRC. Maybe I don't count since I haven't been Moosified. :)

I think I've maybe used IRC once or twice to get help with Perl. Perl monks is nicer to me since I can always search and see how other people have approached problems. IRC is too instant. I'm not exactly a old guy either. :p

Here, Perlmonks, the lists mentioned on perl.org, Use Perl, various local user groups and probably some more that don't spring to my mind immediately..

Usenet group comp.lang.perl.misc is a very good resource.

You'll need a newsreader and a newsserver.

Or you could access it using Google groups http interface:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.perl.misc
