Hello world.

Recently I became very interested in grid computing because I am trying to solve a problem which requires huge, huge amounts of processing power that can be performed in parallel. My question is if there are any grids that are publicly accessible to harness the computing power of thousands of computers? I know only of the World Community Grid, but those only allow projects that directly benefits humankind, and I doubt my algorithms are that beneficial to be included in their grid.

If there is no such grid available, this would be an excellent addon for programming communities, maybe even stackoverflow. Anyone with the know-how to set one up? I can see all kinds of achievements that can be given to users who donate computing power, to keep them motivated for sharing their resources.

Probably if you want to start with a free plan, check Google AppEngine. Their base plans are free with daily cap.

Also check Amazon EC2 where you can run Map-Reduce jobs - pay as you go plans

Check CHG for comparisons in features.

I am also into Grid-Computing right now, and my boss found Delphi++ and forces us to go grid with some of our solutions. http://plusplus-technologies.co.cc is the link. To be honest I have not been able to make the grid working so far, but I trust I will :)
