Hi

Is there a setting in Ultraedit that allows me to see the Encoding of the File?

Thanks for your help.

I am not sure if it is what you are looking for, but initial searches revealed the following link:

Thanks for the link, but its's not what I'm looking for. I just want to know what Encoding my file has. I'm looking for a Screen/Dialog that show's me the "File Properties".

You are welcome. I do not think that automatic detection of encoding is possible with any software as it is almost impossible.

You can try opening the file in a web browser and try setting the character encoding. That way, you can be sure that the file corresponds to the encoding that you have selected.

The first few Bytes in a text file holds the Encoding Information. I thought UltraEdit can show this somewhere..

Try PilotEdit. PilotEdit can detect text encoding automatically.
