We use a Google mini to index a client site and when a user does a search we make a HTTP request to the Google mini and get the results back in XML which is processed and displayed to the user.
The client has reported a lot of timeouts occurring on on the HTTP requests (we timeout after 10 seconds) and after checking the results for a week it seemed like 1 in 20 requests was a timeout (i.e. the Google Mini took more than 10 seconds to respond).
I have experienced this myself while using the Google Mini admin interface where occasionally it just hangs waiting for a request from the Google mini until the 30 second browser timeout.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this or how I might resolve it?
