Briefly, all of the up-to-date versions of the three browsers that I use day-to-day, namely Chrome, Firefox and IE, make it possible to drag links to the favourites bar.

What I really want is to be able to show job seekers that they can drag RSS feeds for job searches from any of a number of big job boards such as Monster.com to the subscription edit box in the Google Reader, using the favourites bar as an intermediary location. I notice that both Chrome and Firefox handle this. I can drag a shortcut from the favourites bar to the edit box, or I can drag the handle to the left of the address bar. In either case the browser obtains the URL that is needed.

Unfortunately when I perform the same action with IE the document displayed by the browser is replaced by the one given by the URL. This raises some questions for me.

Are there security implications that Microsoft has grasped that other developers have not? (I haven't.)

Is there a workaround that someone can think of? (I haven't.)

Ultimately I want to be able to provide a drop target for items from the favourites bar that will work in IE. Has anyone seen an example that I can crib from?

Any other discussion would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.
