Decided to learn PHP, Python. Lots of books are there in market, but donno which are latest/newbie friendly.

Need your help..

A:

I do most of my learning online, but when I buy books to learn new things, I like the head first books. You might like Headfirst Php. After many community requests, Head First Programming with Python has just come out, but I haven't read it.

While it's not necessarily a book, per se, the online guides at php.net are awesome. As a nice added feature, if you ever need to look up a command you can just tack it to the end of the address and get straight to the article you need (e.g. php.net/switch). If you're already familiar with programming basics, that should be able to provide much of what you need to get moving quickly.
