Are there any architect certifications which improve my skill and are recognized around the world?

Sun Certified Enterprise Architect

Certifications will not improve your skills. It might help in getting you an edge over other candidates though.

But your 10 years experience(as seen in your profile) will probably outweigh these certifications.

Well, there's the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect certification.

Sun Certified Enterprise Architect is the top level Java architecture certification. Though in my not-so-humble opinion, I think certification is not a replacement for experience on real projects.

To me, SCEA is a way to _start_ out as an architect after a fair bit of development experience, and does not replace architecture experience. Mind you, I may be biased: I completed my SCEA having come from a development background. People who come from an architecture background may have something else to say.

Thanks. In fact I was expecting other than Sun certification. Since all answers recommends the same, I assume there is no other good certification available.

Since you've tagged your question "Java", this may not be what you're looking for, but the SEI provides some certifications and training in Software Architectures.

Once a while ago I also thought about certification. But I quit after answering questions:

  • By learning the stuff does it necessarily make me a better developer? -> NO
  • Can I invest the tough time invest for exam-learning for other things (e.g. reading books, developing software)? -> YES
  • Is it very helpful for my CV? -> NO (I am stated in germany where certs are not so important)
  • Is it fun/motivating? -> NO (I've always found learning for exams boring)

So for myself I quit the idea and I am sure I have spent the time with more valuable things.

Still: There may be other countries where certs are important, if you're living in it then you should go for it! As I heard in India certs are sometimes a criteria to get job interviews.
