Monodevelop 2.2.1 (Linux) takes a long time to compile/build

I upgraded Monodevelop to 2.2.1 from an older version, and when I do ctrl+F7 (rebuild proj), the app freezes for a few secs, and takes at least 30secs to a min to be done compiling, which is weird because on the older version, there is no freeze and compiling takes a quick few seconds. The code hasn't changed much so I don't think that its the code.

Anyone has any clue to help improve the situation? The downtime is annoying, heh.
