How do I monitor RAID state on Adaptec cards (especially ASC-29320ALP) under linux ubuntu 8.04 with kernel 2.6.24-19?
The ubuntu works with the BIOS configured RAID perfectly. I am concerned though, that should one of the disks fail, nobody would know until it is too late.

There is a tool called mdadm daemon which is probably what you are looking for.
The smartd daemon is also useful to monitor the individial drives.
Check out their Linux Blog. They do some RAID management QA on there.
One thing that has become overwhelmingly clear though is they don't support Linux that well. Tools like arconf should do what you're looking for, but that doesn't seems to be the case on Linux... and all for no good reason.
They have a link on the blog for asking new questions, so if all else fails, pinging them this question might get you the answer you're looking for, but judging by the number of negative-sounding answers they're handing out, I wouldn't bet on it.
Edit: I've seen several references to Storage Manager being able to query the status. But it looks like they've only chosen to implement it on a handful of their higher-end products. Go through their download system and see if there's one for yours.
