Ugh, I can't believe I have to ask this, but where can I find previous versions of the ant manual (http://ant.apache.org/manual/index.html)? That page says, "Please use the documentation appropriate to your current version" but I can't find anything other than the current version (1.8.0) on the Web site - I had to resort to using archive.org to find the old version (which I would consider a hack, not a clean solution)...

I'm always using the documentation that comes with the ant zip file. I never quite understood, why they don't serve the old versions of their documentation on their site. But using the documentation on my local machine is faster anyway.
The old distributions are at http://archive.apache.org/dist/ant/binaries/ (I assume, you didn't mean that with 'archive.org')

Brilliant! I installed the Ubuntu ant package, and "man ant" was of no help. Didn't even think to try downloading the zip...

@Brian: If you're using Ubuntu - even better: You can install the package "ant-doc". Then have a look under `/usr/share/doc/ant-doc`. This way you always have the matching version of the documentation.
