How to make mosaic plot with pictures as bars with R?

Hi, I'd like to plot mosaic bar or spinogram like here: http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=117, but I'd like to have vertically streched 3-letter string legend inside of each bar. Any ideas how to implement this easily?

Mosaic plots can be done with the mosaic function in the vcd package.

Spinograms look like stacked histograms, so try adapting histogram code.

Also, you probably don't want stretched text on your plot, it will look hideous. (As a general rule, you should try and use things like colour or shape in your plots rather than text, since they activate your hunter-gatherer bits of brain rather than language processing centres, ehich are faster.)
