Hi all,

This may be an oft-repeated question but I have searched and found no convincing answer. Is there any way or tool or library that converts a PDF containing images, text, etc to PS(PostScript) ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Under Windows install a printer that prints Postscript and then print to file.

Ghostscript also has a script called pdf2ps

On Linux, and indeed most unix machines (including MacOSX) you can use the command line utility pdf2ps which I believe is part of ghostscript.

Im not sure of pdf2ps works on all pdf files. I get an error saying the utility can not open the initial device while using some pdf files.

pdf2ps is only a wrapper script around the real Ghostscript commandline. As such, it **saves** you from learning to gain command over Ghostscript and finetuning its behavior, and it saves you from typing long option strings. But it also **limits** you to the options that are builtin to the wrapper script. If you want to utilize the full power of Ghostscript, you have to use an appropriate Ghostscript commandline finetuned to your needs.

In Mac OS X, when you print you can choose "Save as Postscript" in the "PDF" menu.
