hi, I have some folders on a pc which I do not want others who use this pc as well to open them (folders might be visible only).

Creating other a/c and setting policies/permissions is not what I want.

I think the solution would be to have some windows service that !hooks! up to some process/service that monitors the content/operations on the file system and check whether one of my folders was clicked then ask for a password then take action accordingly.

If you think this is the right approach then-

1.I have basic knowledge of creating a windows service.

2.Rest of the stuff like - which service process to hookup/monitor,how to hookup..T DON'T KNOW............HELP ME..

I you people have a better approach...tell me....

Preference - C#/.net

Thanks...

Not sure why you want to do such thing when ACL provides exactly the same functionality. Perhaps, people can help you if you can tell source of such unusual requirements.

Regardless, what you want is most probably possible by API hooks. Refer this article to know more about that and this article for using hooks to monitor file system.

I do not believe there is an easy solution for you to do what you want. You would probably have to write your own windows driver (C++) to be able to do what you want. If you have never touched C++ this is WAY ADVANCED.
