I have a meeting with a newspaper to discuss working on an android app for a non-profit event that is held at my university (I'm a graduate) every year. They have an iphone app and are looking to have an android app made too. My friend who works on a committee brought my name up when they were asking about the app.

I'm very capable with Android. I work as a software engineer, though not on android stuff, but my problem is I only have 1 fully functional android app that I feel is good enough to show off.

I've never worked a freelance job before and I was wondering what the protocol is when meeting with potential clients. I'll obviously bring my resume, but should I expect to demo my app? Is 1 app enough? I have other stuff that I've written, but it was mostly for educational purposes, so I stopped making it look good after I learned how to do whatever it is that the point of the app was.

tl;dr: What do freelance app designers usually show off during meetings with potential clients?

A:

Before this gets closed, I think the best way to get the job is to setup a deal with the customer. Agree to port some of the functionality for free as proof of concept, and then with no-committment, if they want to continue from there, setup the payment terms.

The key here is to do as little work as possible as proof of concept so you're not really wasting your time. Generally, though, some screens on the device with basic functionality should be more than enough to convince them that you can take the project the entire way.

This entire concept can be taken farther, however, by keeping the customer involved in the development process throughout development, as per what agile doctrine would prescribe.
