I need to set up an online shop for my brother, I have no experience at all setting up an online shop, The number of options out there is overwhelming, Spree, Magento, PrestaShop, etc

Is going to be an small shop (no more than 50 products), with a few custom features, nothing really complicate. I dont want to spend to much money in hosting. So we will be running it on a shared one.

Any suggestion or advice about what tool fits better my needs? Any suggestion or opinion about these tools are very welcome.

As one of the local Magento folks, I can tell you that Magento will do what you want, but will probably be overkill for your needs. Expect to spend significant time customizing your theme and setting up if you choose it.

I installed Magento yesterday, the installation was pretty forward, but customizing the theme was quite painful.

For a project of your size I would recommend Drupal with Ubercart. Drupal is a powerful CMS with a great (Ubercart) shopping cart module.

PS...SO really isn't the place for this type of question although I don't have any good suggestions offhand other than doing your own homework! :-)

If you want some dead easy way to set up such a small project, I would recommend WordPress with the e-Commerce plugin. With that, you will be up in running in less than two hours. I also recommended OpenCart in an earlier answer. I did work with many CMS before and these are probably the easiest to setup for small projects in my opinion. Good luck!

Thank for point me to your previous answer. How is the quality of the documentation of OpenCart?
Pedro
I've never worked with OpenCart, however it has a fairly good user base, so you can't be stuck with it once you use it :)

You should start with a hosted (SaaS) solution such as Shopify, BigCommerce, Yahoo! Stores, etc. Check out www.shopping-cart-reviews.com for a list.

Hosted cart will allow you to focus on sales and not to think about technical stuff.
