That was what I thought as well, and I spent quite some time trying different variations. What was actually going on, I think, was that <0,0,0> is one of the infinite solutions that solves that linear equation system. I had to throw the system an arbitrary value first to work off of, before I could get meaningful results. See my answer below for what I ended up doing.
