i need an internet rich application Idea

hello everyone , i'm taking the " web development " course and the project is worh 40 % of the course i should provide my proposal within 1 week , the problem is that the doctor is very demanding he's expecting nothing less than facebook or WebCT " those were his proposed ideas ". i want to make something special not like others ? so do you have any ideas ?! WE are allowed to use any technology we want , using additional libraries "JQuery" is allowed also . one last thing i gave him an idea of an application to manage our university events but he refused it . ideas related to humanity aspects or serving the community are highly appreciated

Humanity or serving the community? How about an "Amber Alert Portal" that hooks into Amber Alert data and ties it into Facebook/Twitter/etc.? People can "sign up" (follow it in Twitter, Like it in Facebook, etc.) and it will push Amber Alert notifications to them. Bonus points if it can grab their location (such as from a mobile device) and customize the alerts to that. Other types of community alerts may also exist, so find some and incorporate those as well. For example, some colleges (especially in the wake of the Virginia Tech incident) provide SMS alerts when students need to be made aware of something hazardous on campus.

This may have already been done, I don't know. It's just a quick idea. If he requires something good that hasn't been done before then that's a pretty high standard :)
