variations for site that already exists sharepoint

Question

I have a site set up in sharepoint

after root there is a subsite "English"

I want to now create a variation for this, and set English as the source.

Then I need to create a "German" version that has the exact same structure and pages as the english site.

the problem im having is that the english site and structure is already set up

so when i click "create hierarchies" in the variation labels section i get

"A site already exists at the source label target location. Either rename the site or the label, and retry Hierarchy Creation."

how do a create the variation based on the structure already set up?
