Hello everyone,

I am using Windows Media Encoder 9 on Windows Vista + VSTS 2008 + C#. And I find the recorded video quality is not very good, the major issue is the details are not clear enough -- for example, when list a folder in explorer containing a lot of files (file names are not very clear), when quickly scroll-up/scroll-down a folder, the file names are not displayed immediately, but displayed gradually. I am using full screen recording (CBR) mode.

Here is my recorded video. Any advice how to improve quality?

thanks in advance, George

My first bit of advice would be to remember that the video you linked to, is being displayed at a much smaller resolution then whet you have on screen. That much change in resolution is why you see distortion. It's similar in comparison to displaying a movie formated for a television (692x288 on the first video I grabbed) and playing it on your computer (1440x900 here) the movie gets distorted because it has to be stretched substantially when blown-up to fill my screen. In this case it's the same thing reversed where your video at a higher resolution is being distorted (shrunk) to fit the space provided.

I am using the same resolution to record. My issue is -- when quickly scroll-up/scroll-down a folder, the file names are not displayed immediately, but displayed gradually (have some delay). Any ideas what is wrong?

Use a product that was made for screen casting. There are a few but the most popular these days appears to be Camtasia.

They have a demo so you've nothing to lose by trying it.

You have to? That's a bit like using a spanner to hammer in nails. Use the right tool for the job. I can't be fairer than that.

Well I just saw your other thread and understand why you're doing it through WME. If the only reason is you need it to be programmatic, you could use a third party tool. You could even just use the graphics framework and press 15 bitmaps per second into a video.
