I am a MCAD.NET (1.x version). I would like to get some suggestions on upgrading my certification.

If my goal eventually is to get a MCSD with the least number of exams, should I be trying to upgrade from MCAD to MCPD and work towards MCPD?

Also, will MCAD be obsolete any time soon?

MCAD and MCSD are already superceded by various flavors of MCPD. I am in the same boat as you.

I believe this is where you get to make a choice:

What flavor of MCPD do you want to get?

  1. MCPD Windows Developer
  2. MCPD Web Developer

It appears you need 2 additional courses to upgrade to these.

Then you can take extra tests to certify to MCPD Enterprise Application Developer, which is the closest equivalent to MSCD. You will need two additional courses for this one (for a total of 4 additional).

The link for the courses are here.

So, there's no way for someone to get the good ol' MCSD anymore? The equivalent is now MCPD Enterprise Application Developer?
I believe that's correct. Check out the MCSD page: it tells you the exams are 70-553 and 70-554, a.k.a. upgrade to Enterprise App Developer.
