Like Thomas said, use the one-click installer. Assuming you're interested in getting started with Rails, they have a helpful section on getting it all set up.

Add my vote for the one-click installer, there's no sensible alternative.

If you're looking to install Ruby in an environment behind a proxy server, then you may find problems with gem install which can be handled with RubySSPI which has made my life so much easier.
