I am wondering if there are a set of standard emoticons which I can use with a set of opensource icons also. As a table e.g. :) -> smile.gif etc.

but i dont know what the left side is i.e. what the user should type to convert it to that image? e.g. i know that :) convert to smile.gif but others?

@Alec Smart: There are lots of resources that describe the meanings of common smilies. And if I were using your application, I'd prefer that you select only a few emoticons to display.
