Hey brain trust.

Our company has tasked us to begin getting certifications in our career path. While I can take the pretty easy route and just go for development tool certifications, is anyone aware of good certs for someone in the realm of UI design?

Thanks!

[more info requested] company paid. This is mostly a microsoft house. Currently, I'm the only one dabbling into things such as Silverlight. Most everything will most likely be XHTML/CSS/Javascript related. I'm well versed in jQuery & ExtJs. I'm mainly in Aptana Studio for js development. Coffee almost went out my nose when I read 'Dreamweaver'. However, I do use Ps and Fireworks pretty extensively.

I hope the company is paying for it because that's the only reason I'd do certifications.

You don't say what technologies you use or whether it's Web-based or desktop based UI development. Big differences.

If it is Web-based, is it pure HTML/CSS or is it Javascript-heavy? Is it the true RIA-style application like YUI, Dojo or even GWT?

Is it purer UI design such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop and those kinds of tools?

Basically, more information required.

I believe your portfolio would be the best certificate on earth for you job of a UI developer.

As for formal certifications, I would only consider doing it if the company pays, because the prices will be in the range of $$$-$$$$.

There is an excellent Adobe Certification program. Since Adobe products dominate the UI development space, that is the certification that I would put on the top of my list if I were interested in UI certification.

And they're cheap. $150. Good catch.

@Fluid If you do decide to get an Adobe Cert, please update your question with a description of your experience so that we can all benefit. :)

Many Computer Science majors offer excellent classes in UI design:
