I'm stuck in the world of VS2005 and .net framework 1.1. I'm only really interested in Winforms so never felt the need to move on. I am however now interested in seeing what is available now (latest .net framework and VS) and what has changed. Any good book recommendations? I don't need the VS / .net from scratch, I'm specifically looking for something good about the updates... if there is such a beast available

I can recommend C# in depth - it's aimed at competent 1.1 programmers who want to learn C# 2 and 3.

(Disclaimer: I know the author, but it's a generally well thought of book so I don't think I'm biased...)

Also for pure reference C# 3 in a nutshell is great although I wouldn't necessarily want to learn from it.

Troelsen's Pro C# and the .Net 3.5 platform is the best .Net book I have read. I have the second (.Net 2.0), third (.Net 3.0) and fourth (.Net 3.5) edition of this book and found them quite a good way to (a) learn .Net and (b) see the new features.

Thanks. Just ordered Pro VB 2008 and the .Net 3.5 platform as I prefer case insensitive languages (it comes from being a bit of a dinosaur I guess)
