The new Firebug 1.4 activation is a serious problem for me (if you don't know what I mean see http://www.softwareishard.com/blog/firebug/how-to-enable-and-disable-firebug-14/). For one thing it was fine (possibly great) before. Additionally I commonly want to watch some activity in the console then check out what happened in the net tab (or vice versa). Now I have to reload the page to view the second panel (which in the worst case scenario may not yield the same results). Am I missing something or is there some way to have more than one panel working? Any ideas to make this less painful? Thanks -Mike

Mike,
I'm having the same problem you are. Can't really understand why FB devs have been changing the functionality of this activation/deactivation so thoroughly without consulting with the user base.
I have come to terms with using Chrome for browsing and FF for developing. Meaning that during work all Gmail and related stuff will be run on Chrome and will use Firefox with FB activated for ALL SITES. That way FB is always there.
It's a shame though, it used to work so smoothly.
I just wish Google would pick up on FB and give it some real support.
