Title pretty much says it all. I'm wondering if there's a way to check the current size-limit on the users local hard-drive for sharedObject.

A:
You can use the size property of the SharedObject. As far as I know it shows size of a specific SharedObject, not all of them, as I presume the Settings option displays. I think 100K is the default size and the user is prompted in case more space is needed.
There is a pretty handy example in the documentation as well:
"

import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.NetStatusEvent;
import flash.net.SharedObject;
import flash.net.SharedObjectFlushStatus;

import flash.text.TextFieldAutoSize;
import flash.text.TextFieldType;
public class SharedObjectExample extends Sprite {
private var mySo:SharedObject;
public function SharedObjectExample() {
buildUI();
saveBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, saveValue);
clearBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clearValue);
mySo = SharedObject.getLocal("application-name");
output.appendText("SharedObject loaded...\n");
output.appendText("loaded value: " + mySo.data.savedValue + "\n\n");
}
private function saveValue(event:MouseEvent):void {
output.appendText("saving value...\n");
mySo.data.savedValue = input.text;
var flushStatus:String = null;
try {
flushStatus = mySo.flush(10000);
} catch (error:Error) {
output.appendText("Error...Could not write SharedObject to disk\n");
}
if (flushStatus != null) {
switch (flushStatus) {
case SharedObjectFlushStatus.PENDING:

Thanks for your answer, but what I'm after is to see the "capacity", not the current size of the sharedObject.e.g. see if the user has set the limit to..0, 10KB, 100KB(which is default as you said), 1MB, 10MB, or unlimited

I see what you mean. I've been looking through the documentation and couldn't find anything handy. It sounds like a simple and handy thing to have. You could try to flush a larger value just for testing and the user will be prompted for more space if needed. e.g. try { flushStatus = mySo.flush(10000); } catch (error:Error) { output.appendText("Error...Could not write SharedObject to disk\n"); }I think most people don't change they're settings a lot so I think it's safe to stick to 100K for most of the users. Instruct your users to allow

for more disk space before trying to flush something big, maybe use a print screen to make it obvious. I think that's as good as it gets.
