FTP or Samba for hired VPS ?

I have a couple of websites in a couple of VPS. Obviously is not in my network because I hire a VPS provider. Now, what do you say is better practice. Use FTP to upload new versions of my software or NFS/SMB ?

I think these 2 are my only posibilities. Thanks.

A: 

FTP is dead (or at least should be long time ago). Use SFTP/rsync.
