I'm searching a good book about design but I'm not a designer.

I've found "The Complete Graphic Designer" and it seemed to me that it was good enough. But unfortunatelly I cant find any reviews to be sure.

So, some questions about it:

  1. Is it understandable enough for programmer (i.e. I know only a few design terms)?
  2. Does it contain some thoughts and basic methods or it mostly contains only 'nice examples'?
  3. Is this book meant for web designers/information designers or for industrial designers?

I'm not familiar with that title, but as a (failing) programmer trying to make a go in web design, here are some books that have helped me:

Graphic Design: The New Basics Amazon link

Principles of Beautiful Web Design Amazon link

After looking at the preview of the book you mentioned on Amazon, it looks decent but it doesn't look like a good place to start. Maybe start out with Graphic Design: The New Basics first. I'm suspicious of a book for new designers that talks about logos and corporate identities so soon. You need to start with the basics first, line, shape, color theory, etc.

I also have not heard of that particular book, but many people (myself included) like and will recommend Robin Williams for programmers interested in design principles.

Specifically: The Non-Designer's Design Book

She also has a more web-specific title, but I haven't read it: The Non-Designer's Web Book

+1 Robin Williams books are an excellent understandable reference for design.
