We self-sign some java applets that we put on our web application, which usually runs across HTTPS. Sporadically we get exceptions in the java console:

At which point you have to close the browser in an attempt to get it to work. If I add another connector to port 80 and use just HTTP, then I can't seem to replicate the problem.
Does anyone know of an issue with sending signed applets across HTTPS?
I know that buying a code signing certificate from a trusted source could have an impact, but I don't understand why we get this error so sporadically.
We're running Tomcat 6.0.13, applets compiled using JDK 1.5.0_14 and this is the same JRE that tomcat is running on.
Thanks in advance!
