Creating a Flash Content Slider

I'm trying to duplicate this is flash or perhaps the most practical language as I'm going to be posting previews of my own websites. The height and width of the actual box will be this size not that it has anything to do with which language to go with but. I've search google and high and low for a tutorial on how to create something like the link provided below with no success. Does any one have any ideas on where I could go to find out how to make something like below and if you recommend another language I'm rather new to programming I only know JAVA XHTML and CSS.

Try jQuery, jquery.cycle.js, and a bit of CSS.

I have no knowledge of that so is it possible to point me in the direction of some tutorials to what I'm looking for what is the effect even called I'm trying to do

also why would that be better then flash??

It's better than flash because there's better browser support for it. You can guarantee that it will work even for those without Flash (and believe me, they exist).
