Does anybody know where to find a detailed guide to performing a bulk product/category/sub category import With Magento?

For example, what fields can be imported? What format can be imported? How to do it with a Chron job? etc

I just started a store with Magento, as far as I know in the latest version you can export/import based on the database structure the interface is there. The procedure I think is to export, then import with the same columns but with your additional rows.

If you wanted to update products via cronjob you may want to take a look at the Magento Core API for updates like that.

This book has a good chapter on Magento import/export:

Checkout the Maguniversal Product Importer for easy importing of mass-products by Magdeveloper.com:

The universal product importer allows to import any CSV file without worrying about modifying the Magento Database. It’s universal format allows you to import product data from any whole seller.

This tool offers great importing features:

The magdeveloper extension is pointless and just creates an extra step. Why "convert" your data file when you can just use it as-is with magento out of box features. Magento supports product mappings out of box so you can take any data file csv/xml and just map your fields to magento and import it. If you need to do configurables or bundle or downloadable or grouped or any other data product related including tier pricing or custom options / product tags / multi-store etc this extension will do all of that as well as anything the magdeveloper does and its 1/2 the price

Hi everybody, I would recommend to use Store Manager for Magento. It allows to import/export thousands of products in couple minutes. Now a lot of Magento store owners use this tool. For more details go to: http://www.mag-manager.com/
