My Central Admin for sharepoint works but shows messages on the status bar 'page with errors' and when i open a setting e.g. Authentication providers and when i try click Save/OK button it does not work at all...page does not refresh or anything. This happens with most of the pages

I had made few changes to the .css files earlier but i don't see why this would have an impact on the Central Admin.

Any thoughts or suggestions please?

Thank you very much

When you say "page with errors" are you receiving javascript errors that your browser is notifying you of?? What are they if so??

With respect to the Central Admin (CA) pages, I'm only aware of two reasons why they would not work:

  1. They have never worked. Something is wrong with the install. Reinstall SharePoint.

  2. They used to work, but now they don't. I've only ever seen this when changes have been made to either the master page or the related CSS.

As a quick test to see where you stand, you could revert all changes made to the master page(s) and the CSS. Then, test to see if the CA pages are working. It's likely that the CA pages will work with the default master pages and CSS.

If the reverted CA works, then one or more of the changes are responsible for 'breaking' the CA pages. At this point you're down to basic debugging practices to determine which change/s is/are the culprit.

for my problem i would say number 2 because it was wokring perfect before. only happened after i made changes to the Core.cssCould you suggest how i can reset my core.css or where can i find a default css - any help would be highly appreciated please?
Mo
It's always a good idea to check in the baseline to source control. As you know, service packs and hot fixes may overwrite files like core.css, default.master, etc.If this isn't available the original file(s) can be found in another (unmodified) farm. They may also be available directly off of the install media. I haven't checked e.g. for core.css.
