Use FrontpageRPC to checkout/download a file from a sharepoint site

I'm writing a C# app that I now want to check out a file and download it, but I can't find any examples of calling the Frontpage RPC and I'm just getting 500 errors after reading the MSDN Doc.

Can anyone provide an example of downloading a doc in a document list please?
