Hello

I'd like to know that if I have a SQL server 2005 SE/EE licensed. Can I install SSIS component on my workstation, or other workstations to create, deploy, and run the package?

Thanks.

A:

Client tools (i.e. SSMS, sqlcmd, BIDS, etc.) can be installed on any number of machines, devices, etc. and used to connect to and manage any fully/properly licensed server (i.e. either a CAL assigned to you, or a processor license applied correctly). These client tools are what you would use to create SSIS packages, deploy them, and debug.

Thanks for the info. I had a guy who said that I need licenses to install SSIS on workstation. I am not sure that are there any MS documents out there support this? Do you know?
If you are going to use the SSIS engine to run production packages, yes, you'll need to license it - however, to simply develop/create the packages, deploy the packages (to local or remote servers), or debug (i.e. debug run) the packages, the client toolset is all you need.
