Do you allocate some hours during the weekend to code? If so, are you developing for self-improving, personal side projects, for the community (i.e. Open Source projects) or just because you can't stop doing it?

Unfortunately any coding I do on the weekend is to try and catch up on what I couldn't finish during the week. :P

Otherwise I'm usually trying to explore new IDE's, browse stackoverflow.com for ideas or suggestions on how to improve my code or sometimes I'll make some time to read a programming book.

I'm working on various projects, and spend time on them on the weekend, as well as after work during the week. They're things I want to do because they help people, or are fun; they won't make me money directly, but I know that anything I do in public will showcase my skills. It's much easier to convince a potential employer to hire me if I can point to something online and say "See that? I built it."

It is just because I was lazy and have to fulfill my plan.

Or I was stupid and didn't estimate correct how long a "simple" task took to implement.

I code on the weekends to try out the things I don't get to at work.

I don't allocate time, I'm coding whenever I'm not doing anything else, which ends up being a lot of time. When I do it, sometime it's for open source projects and sometimes it's to conquer the world. I rarely code just for fun anymore, meaning that I'm coding to get a program out of it that does something instead of coding just to write some code. It's fun anyway.

My work hours are somewhat flexible, so I sometimes code during weekends.

Well, being a university student I'm pretty much forced to :p Still I do it to try stuff out from time to time.

I am typically programming (working) on the weekend because I usually end up doing other things during the week instead of programming. To even get 40hrs in a week, I need to work on the weekend too.

Weekend or not, when i am almost falling asleep, i often get an idea i just have to do right now. This often unfolds into a long development session.

What's weekend? Am I supposed to stop my hobby then?

I do develop on the weekends occasionally but with the exception of some light reading related to my field, I try to devote my weekends to my other interests away from code.

It's not completely reliable but I often find that a weekend completely away from my development projects helps me re-focus and improves my productivity when it's time to resume my work again.

I'm trying to build a business while working a real job. So when I have time on the weekends, I'm usually coding. I rarely have time on the weekends though as I try to maintain a "life."
