I need to find a good, powerful and reliable UML diagram editor. I cannot use visio for this - I just go mad because of its usability. Can anyone recommend me a good one?

+1 on Dia! I use it on Windows XP to draw UML class, sequence, and state diagrams among others. I like it because it supports flowcharts, unlike other UML-only programs like StarUML.

I use Enterprise Architect, which is what we used on my UML course. It's not free, but there's a trial version, and I think it's really good. Covers every type of UML diagram, I think, and it's the easiest to use that I've found.

IMHO, EA is probably the second worst tools around (after rational rose, does it still exist?). I mean: it works pretty well for just drawing a bit UML. But there are 5000 additional features which are not usable, do not work properly and pollute the UI until you can't find anything. Ironically, these features is what you pay for.
