I'm setting up a custom themed Tumblr site for someone that doesn't want annual hosting fees. Are there any free places out there to host under 10mb of css/js/jpeg files? (Tried Google docs but they don't allow css/js.) If not, what are some cheaper options?

Grazie.

Hmm, you could use Dropbox for that. Dropbox basically is an online folder, which means you can sync it between multiple computers. And you can also use the Public folder, simply upload your files there, with a right click on the file choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link. And then just paste it where ever you need it.

Note: You need to download and install it.

I hope this helps.

*EDIT: The free account gives you 2GB of space, use it however you want.

That works, thanks.

the thing to watch out for w/this solution is accidentally deleting files on your host. Someone removes files from a computer that is sync'd; unintentionally these files get dropped from the server. Images are broken and css files are gone.

Amazon's S3 is really the best solution. Unless they have huge traffic, their costs will be very, very low ( pennies / dollars ).

Here's a Coding Horror post on the topic

This is how I am hosting my tumblr site. www.asciiarmor.com is the blog and files.asciiarmor.com is my S3 bucket. It's super fast and very reliable.

Tumblr has an uploading form dedicated for uploading external assets for your themes. It won't cost you anything, but there is a 15mb daily limit. You can find it here.

Thanks! That must have been well-hidden. I wasn't able to find this when I was working on my custom theme a couple of months back... :(

I've been searching for this Tumblr link for hours now. Finally came across it on Stack Overflow. Thanks buttonstack!

Instead of creating new answers that are not really answers, you can always add *comments* to answers...

Yes :) I realized that after I got the minus 1. Ha. Oh well. Thanks for the heads up though.
