hi, i am sorry but i had enough from MS Vi$$o as a software design application, i have been using it for ages and i find the user experience comparable to a Chinese torture (with out insulting the Chinese nation).

we are just drowning Squares there is no reason for it to look so gray and complicated ... ;-)

can anyone recommend me a good looking, easy to use, free modeling software. it does not have to generate code, though it would be a plus. i am using the good old design diagrams class diagram, sequence diagram, activity diagram

thanks

Sounds like you are looking for more of a drawing / diagramming program. Try InkScape. It has a bit of a learning curve though.

+1 Matthias - How does it compare to Rational and ArgoUML? I liked Rational before IBM took it over.

Design tools are one of my "pet peeves". At my former employer, my boss thought that some gui tool that auto generates code would be the way of the future. My response was: So many legacy problems are in C because so many successful projects are in C. These other tools have no legacy problems because they have no legacy.

Check ArgoUML. Is one of the best known.

UML Sculptor and StarUML are alternatives, and just for quick diagrams UMLet. To create and share simple UML diagrams online yUML is one of the best choices.

StarUML seems to be dead project wise though - last update was 2006 ish

ArgoUML is crap, you can't UNDO anything.

I also use with success ArgoUML. For a more extensive choice of tools, you should look at the UML category of softdevtools.com
