Hi, I was wondering whether I could get some advice from some more experienced developers out there.

Basically I will be graduating this summer with a degree in computing and am keen to go into web development. At the moment I have a a fair bit of experience with php (object orientated) and while I have also have a fair bit of c# experience I havent really put that to use in an asp.net setting.

My question is this - are there more / better paid jobs for asp.net than there are for php developers and so is it worthwhile changing my focus from now?

Also, when hiring graduate developers what sort of level is expected?

You need to look in your area, or the area in which you plan on residing to see what technologies are used by which companies. Both .NET and PHP will lead to many job opportunities, but the immediacy of these opportunities will be based on your location.

For jobs seeking web developers, employers look for experience. Show off your skills with web development with a portfolio.

PHP and ASP.NET has its advantages and disadvantages. Model-view-controller (MVC) pattern is helpful with both languages and makes websites well structured. ASP.NET has a good entity data model working with databases and PHP with MySQL go hand and hand like Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston.

I wish I can say which has a larger demand and better pay grade but showcase your work, employers will recognize your skills and will hopefully land you a job.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
