I am looking into getting an Informix certification for developers. I am not sure how this thing is run. Should I sign up a course and only then take an exam or should I just prepare on my own and take online tests?

Thanks

Although unfamiliar with the Informix certification I will say that typically I find if you are familiar with the technologies being tested that with a little self guided review/studying that you can usually get by ok.

If you are new to the technology, or have not used it heavily for at least a few years then I would highly recommend looking into books and or classes to get yourself started.

As Mitchel said, it depends on your background. If you're familiar with Informix, then prepare on your own. If you've only used other DBMS, then take enough time to get familiar with the Informix product(s). There's lots to like, and lots that'll be different from anything else - the same as every other DBMS has different management quirks. (Of course, it also depends which certificate your are aiming for, too. I'm assuming one of the admin certifications, rather than say a developer certification. Stuff learned elsewhere carries over for the developer certification more easily, but beware the quirks of the Informix type system).
