What's the best solution for a photographer wanting to sell image files online? I tried zencart, but it's way over the top and their backend looks like a 3 year old designed it.

Is there a free solution out there? One that has easily modifiable templates and isn't too tedious to add hundreds of pictures for sale?

I'm seriously thinking learning how to do it myself with the whole paypal IPN thing might be the way to go..

Suggestions is greatly appreciated!

A friend of mine is quite content with iStockphoto.

I tried that but couldn't get in, I was looking more for something i can install on my own server but maybe i should look into stock agencies more.

I'd look seriously into something like iStockphoto or a similar third party provider.

Selling downloads online requires an extra layer of security and license management on top of the already considerable effort (and expense) required to run your own ecommerce store. Tangible products are easier because they're less exposed to fraud and copyright infringement.

You really want to spend your time taking nice photographs. Not messing around with some software that doesn't quite do what you want or someone stealing your files or a developer that's too busy to fix something that's broken.

But if you're cashed up that's another story. You can just pay someone to solve these problems.

Good luck!
