2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)

i am getting this erro plz let me know how to solve this

I'm guessing, and admittedly I don't have a lot of MySQL experience, that the server isn't responding (also possibly the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured). Is the server running? If yes, is there a firewall in the way?
