I run a small startup and am always on the lookout for quality engineers. I've seen someone solicit SO with a similar question but there was only one response so I'm going to solicit the community again. (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/112766/free-application-to-keep-track-of-a-recruiting-process didn't suffice for me)

Over a long period of time, I've found that my system of recruiting is incredibly inefficient. An applicant who might have been attractive the first week might become overshadowed by other applicants further down the road. Sometimes, applicants who I ignored become relevant to a new position that opens up as an web app becomes more robust and takes a turn in a direction I didn't consider. These are all difficult to track.

Knowing that recruiting intelligent people should be an ongoing process, what are the best web applications for managing the process? Are there any apps with features catered specifically towards tech startups? (Free or paid, doesn't matter).

Hmm, I did some research after not receiving any responses and have settled with installing OrangeHRM on either LinodeVPS or SliceHost.

http://www.slicehost.com

OrangeHRM requires a LAMP stack, and is a private hosted installation (I'd prefer something on the cloud) but I guess I feel good knowing I own and control the data since much of it is proprietary.

A little bit of leg-work, but otherwise a decent solution. Handles many of the other mundane tasks that any start-up / small business encounters, such as contact management, tracking vacation / sick days, time management, employee information, etc...

All-in-all more work than I had hoped, but also much more comprehensive than I had anticipated. I hope someone gains something from my research!

If you're looking for a hassle-free solution that doesn't require setting up a server, managing updates, etc... (although OrangeHRM does have a cloud solution it appears) then try out Zoho's suite of services:

www.zoho.com
recruit.zoho.com

There seems to be integration with Google Apps, a project management module, HR module, docs, spreadsheets, wiki, CRM, invoicing capabilities, custom domains, etc...

Both are pretty solid options. The Zoho services are a bit more solid, but for orgs that want to own their data, then OrangeHRM is a decent solution.
