Does anybody knows when will Microsoft release (in their plans or in roadmaps) a 'service pack' for Visual Studio 2010.

I know it's too early to ask, but my client requires a stable release of VS 2010 + .Net 4.0 before going into development of his project.

It is difficult to answer your question but one can at least predict the dates for SP1 release from past trends.

VS2005 Release Date: 27-Jan-2006
VS2005-SP1 Release Date: 14-Dec-2006 [Released after 11 months]

VS2008 Release Date: 19-Feb-2008
VS2008-SP1 Release Date: 11-Aug-2008 [Released after 6 months]

VS2010 Release Date: 29-Jun-2010
VS2010=SP1 Release Date: ??? [May release in about 6 months or so..]

Therefore the service pack shall be released in 7.666666666666667 months...

The Win Forms Designer is highly unstable for me. I am considering downgrading...

That's because you're supposed to use the WPF designer these days.

I can just LOL to someone who deliberately chooses winforms over wpf these days. Seriously, winforms gives you ZERO advantages and an endless list of disadvantages compared to wpf. I might sound a bit aggressive on this but it's the same thing that happens at my work place, my boss refusing wpf because "it's new, we don't know it, might be unstable, etc" and sticking to old winforms, I can't stand it...

@Matteo: does this mean you're offering your services for free to rewrite and test all the legacy winforms apps out there? We have an enormous investment in a winforms app, but still want to run vs2010 and take advantage of .net4. In the real world, you can't just switch off old tech, sadly. We all love to play with new toys, but playing doesn't earn much.

No, that's not what I mean. I wouldn't dream to rewrite legacy apps. I was talking about fresh projects. Why choose winforms over wpf? It's like you ate bad food for all your life, then you're presented quality food for the same price, and you say "no thanks, I'll stick to the bad food because I'm used to it". Total nonsense.
