I'm on road to take the MCPD Enterprise Applications Developer certification, by myself. I already did some courses (WCF and ADO) and was planning to take the others. I found the courses too poor in details - they were more an "introduction" to the content -. Needed to study by the MSDN content.

So what's the "path to certification", taking into consideration the content learning of the technologies.

NOTE: I found @Randolpho answer pretty good. But it doesnt covers this question.

A:

The way I normally do it is to get some book for the exam in question, usually one not published by Microsoft, and then take some of the demo tests issued by various practice test providers, that together with real world knowledge is usually enough. If you want more, I'd suggest looking at the transcender practice tests, they're expensive but they have very good links to reference materials.

I second the real-world knowledge. In my experience, that's been the best prep.

Ok this is nice to get certified. But in terms of knowledge? I mean learning the contents. Why MS Press books arent good?

MS Press certification prep books have historically been riddled with errors. MS is attempting to thoroughly review them for the VS2010 releases, so I'd expect them to improve in the future. However, as of now, they have earned a reputation of having many mistakes (e.g., wrong answers for practice questions) as well as incomplete coverage of the test material.

I've found the MS Press certification books that I've looked at to be the same as their training courses, they mostly just introduce the subject so you have to fill up with something else. My answer above is the way to learn the content, if you do any labs in the book and read any references in the practice tests you'll often gain good knowledge of the subject.
