Hello Everyone,

Is there something called as Technical Library where technical\programming books can be borrowed? Buying books becomes too expensive, given the fact that I start reading a book and keep it aside after couple of days. Borrowing technical\Programming books would be the best bet for me as it would reduce the expense of buying a new one.

What other options do I have? Please advise.

Safari is a good option. Books 24 x7 offers a similar service. These sites allow you to get current, up-to-date technical manuals as you need them. I have used both and endorse both. They are not free lending libraries, but you will save a great deal of money over buying actual books.

@Adam, These books would be available only on the web. I mean a non-paper format. The local libraries do not have the books on latest technologies.

Check your local library or university library. They typically have something. It may not be the most modern.

Hopefully *ENIAC for Dummies* won't be checked out already.

Well, if you need a lot of books, the safari book webservice might be cheaper than buying them all at once. The only downside is that it's a monthly service, but you accumulate enough credits for downloading an occasional "keep forever" copy of a book or two if you use it long enough.

Check out what your local library can do for you. My library lets me use inter-library loan to get a lot of technical books from university collections (works great for older books like Mythical Man-Month, Gerald Weinberg books, math textbooks), also the library lets its cardholders access Safari for free.
