How to thanks in public mailing-list

I ask a question and receive answer. Should I thanks to mailing list (Reply-All) or just private to answer-sender?

You should never really ever send a private message to a person on a mailing list. Unless you want to be friends. Better to keep everything on the list; and in the case that the answer solved the problem, it's even better to confirm the solution publically (so that all can benefit).
