I've heard that DotNetNuke takes a bit of a hit for Search Engine Optimization. I'm not criticizing the platform, by the way; I love DNN. This is just what I've heard.

As I understand it, the impact is from repetitive content, table-based layouts, and lots of extra markup.

I've got a friend who would like to start an e-commerce site using DNN and some modules from Snowcovered. I was just wondering whether DNN would be a good platform to choose. The idea is attractive because of the ease with which a DNN commerce system can be deployed. Search-engine friendly URLs aren't the problem - the modules do that, it's whether DNN as a whole would be a good platform for this.

Thanks very much for any help or advice.

If you want to build a SEO-friendly site, stay away from DNN. Look at Kentico or Umbraco.

Hello user326502,

As with all projects, you can make your site SEO friendly or not, depending on the worst or best extremes in both cases. As the largest MS Opensource project, and with hundreds of thousands of sites, I think you have to assume that DNN is SEO friendly. However, how you build your particular Ecommerce solution will influence your SEO.

With this in mind, I would suggest that DNN is a great system and if you take care when you build acquire the modules, and speak to the guys on the forums and in SnowCovered you will have no problems at all.

Thanks
